“It was a thing of joy, taking my second son, Samuel Chiagoziem Nwankwo back to the newly restored Government College, Umuahia this afternoon. The new GCU is a world class modern educational center, with state of the arts facilities. I felt so proud having a second generation Umuahian in my family.
Samuel was the overall best performer in the entrance examinations and earned himself a full scholarship.
I therefore, wish to appreciate all Umuahians who contributed in one way or the other to make this restoration project a reality.

The Government College Umuahia was founded by Reverend Robert Fisher on January 29, 1929 when he opened the gates of the school to 25 students drawn from all parts of Nigeria and West Africa, but with catchment in Eastern Nigeria, and the Southern Cameroons.
